Project 2: UI/UX Design Documents

In this second project, we will develop UI/UX documentation. Students are tasked with creating a comprehensive UX design document to guide them in designing the app. The purpose of this document is to collect and analyze data from various perspectives and research methods. With these insights, students will gain a clear understanding and direction for redesigning the chosen app. The goal of the redesign is to create a more user-friendly and efficient app, resulting in a better overall experience.

fig 1.1 Survey Questionnaire

After completing the proposal for the Senheng app, we need to create a Survey Questionnaire on Google Forms to gather insights and recommendations from various users. I have prepared the relevant and suitable questions in a Google Docs document.

fig 1.2 Feedback via email

I emailed my lecturer, Mr. Wong for feedback on my survey questions. Based on his suggestions, I refined the questions and included them in the Google Form. Then, I shared the survey via Instagram, WhatsApp, and other platforms.

The next step, after receiving all the data is to review and analyze it. I have included the data results in my final design document.

Interview

I have prepared the interview process which includes sections and questions for the interviewees. The questions are based mostly on the survey questionnaire but are more in-depth and specific.

fig 1.5 Refined Question

The suggestions and improvements given by the lecturer are reflected in the red-colored sentences, aimed at asking the interviewee more clearly. Based on these suggestions, I have combined ideas to create better versions of questions, allowing for direct inquiries to obtain the insights and answers I seek.

fig 1.6 Process of Interviewing

I have documented the interview process in a dialogue format and stored it in Google Docs before summarizing it in the design documents. My interviewees span different age groups: teenagers, busy adults, and older individuals less familiar with mobile applications. This approach allows me to gather diverse reviews and insights from various perspectives.

Card Sorting

fig 1.7 Problem faced in UXtweak

Initially, I started using the tool recommended by my lecturer, UXtweak, for card sorting. However, I encountered a limitation when I tried to create more than 20 cards. Therefore, I switched to Optimal Workshop to continue with my card sorting process.

After creating it, I shared it online to involve 7 participants in this activity. Their task was to categorize the sets of cards into groups they found reasonable and suitable.

Using the card sorting results, I can create an information architecture map that reflects the placement and categories based on respondent feedback.

User Flow Chart

I mentioned that the icons represent what's at the top right of the chart. For input icons, I opted for circle shapes instead of long, narrow rectangles. There are numerous steps users will click through, but to avoid complexity, I used general terms. For instance, actions like selecting payment methods, entering delivery addresses, and using vouchers or S-coins are categorized under "check fulfillment."

Feedback

Week 10
General Feedback:
Mr. Wong emphasized the need to increase our speed and maintain the pace in Project 2 to ensure timely completion.

Specific Feedback: The lecturer suggested listing the conclusions of the survey and interview using keywords. He also asked about the most challenging problems users face in the Senheng app. While I mentioned bugs, he pointed out that technical issues cannot be addressed through redesign. Therefore, I should focus on problems that can be solved through redesign. Regarding the card sorting, Mr. Wong noted that it should serve as a reference for creating the information architecture map and user flow map, but as a designer, I need to think independently and ensure the flow is reasonable.

Week 7
Specific Feedback: Mr. Wong provided feedback on my survey questionnaire and interview questions. He suggested better versions of the questions and added more specific questions to ensure clarity and depth.

Reflection
Project 2
For Project 2, I deeply appreciate everyone who participated in the Survey Questionnaire, Interviews, and card sorting activities, dedicating their valuable time to provide insights and suggestions for the Senheng app. Their diverse perspectives and ideas have shown me that each person has a unique viewpoint, offering new details and perspectives that I hadn't considered before. This reinforces the importance of user research methods; designers cannot solely rely on their own knowledge but must gather and analyze data to ensure logical and well-informed design decisions. More data leads to clearer directions for the next steps in app redesign. It's crucial to follow each step meticulously to maintain clarity and coherence in the process, avoiding confusion.
